Things I’ve learned from work

• Don’t answer the phone. Someone else always will. 
• Tell your loved ones that they are loved. You’ll regret it if you don’t. 
• Always be nice. You never know when it’ll be the last time you talk to a person. 
• People know when they are going to go. It’s like a change in their mood - they know something’s up but can’t describe it. 
• People will play up. Cause I’m younger they will take the piss.  
• “Your boyfriend is a very, very lucky guy. Make sure you tell him I said that.” 
• “See you, Jimmy!”  
• "In aboot it.”  
• Heather is very fashionable.

I know I post a lot of Ed Sheeran but man, that boy is talented.

I woke up to hear the thump of the post falling on the floor after being pushed through the letterbox. Amongst the post was a parcel for me which happened to be + - Ed Sheeran's new album. I'm loving it to be honest. :)

I'm also loving being up relatively early and not sleeping my days away. I got new curtains recently and they aren't as thick as my old ones so light shines through. Now that we are heading into the darker nights, it's okay but in the mornings it is still a little bright. Therefore my room is too light to lie in until ridiculous times. Usually, when working a late shift, I'd be dragging myself out of bed around 12.30pm rushing about to be picked up for 2pm.
I went into Glasgow yesterday with Kirsten for a wee catch up and shopping trip. My dad asked me to try and find something for my birthday, but I didn't really see much (or look really). Well, he told me to look in the pound shops to see what I can spend that pound he's giving me on. Haha!  Awk, I rarely get surprises on birthdays or at Christmas any more but here's hoping I get one this year. :)

I watched 9 last night with Jayne. I didn't really feel like watching it at the start but since I gave Jayne the option of which film to watch, I couldn't really argue about it. I'm quite glad she forced me to watch it, it was good. Quite sad at the end though. But still. Afterwards I watched Bridget Jones's Diary since I recently bought it on DVD. I felt the urge to watch it a while back but I only have it on VHS and I don't have a working video player. Booo.

The rest of my day will include listening to + on repeat, reading some more Harry Potter and working until 9pm. Fun fun. I hope you're having a lovely Friday. :)

She Got Off The Plane

My last weekend in laundry sucked. In total, I only was in the laundry for a total of two hours thanks to the job change being very poorly organised. Rachel had already changed to nights, so she wasn't in this weekend and Hayley doesn't start till next weekend just like how I don't take over for Rachel until next weekend. So I had to do a few hours on the floor instead of laundry. Pfffft. I will definitely miss my laundry job. 

I'm quite gutted Friends won't be shown on E4 anymore. Even though I've watched every episode like 500 times or more, I still laugh all the time and my eyes well up every single time Rachel says she "got off the plane."

On the topic of T.V shows, I had been watching 30 Rock on Virgin Media On Demand and when I went to finish season 2 this afternoon, I noticed it had been removed. So annoyed! Although, I was quite happy with the new addition of The Middle, even if it is only the first series. 

I gave my room a bit of a tidy up this afternoon. Only a small one mind you, but still. I found a whole bunch of books that I don't need/want anymore then discovered Read It Swap It. Might try this out. :) Might just sell some on Amazon if anyone would be willing to buy them. I have a couple of "How To Pass.." books from when I was at school which I no longer need and I think someone else would benefit from them. 

I've decided I want to learn to knit before the end of the year. More than enough time to make an awesome hat which could just be someone's Christmas present. :p

I'm off to watch Four Lions in bed with some ice cream. Nice relaxing night before going and doing a hectic shift in the morning. :)

Stuff

It's been madness the past few days. I feel like I haven't had a proper moment to myself.

I worked the past 6 days (including today), mainly late shifts so by the time I came home, I was too tired to really do anything and I'd go straight to bed and sleep right through until I'd need to get up again for work. Since I've been working in the home all summer, it honestly feels like I'm never out of there. I do like working there - the residents keep it fun and interesting, but a break is needed. So when Jackie asked me to fill in the rota with what shifts I'd like to do next week, I only put myself down for two. Monday early and late Friday as well as my weekend shifts which will no longer be in the laundry after this weekend. I stupidly agreed to work care and cleaning shifts at the weekend instead. The one bonus is I get more money but that's due to the extra two hours a week. I will miss my days as a laundry assistant.

With all this work, I've not had a chance to go out and spend my well earned cash. Hopefully I'll go shopping with my mum after she's finished work tomorrow and maybe buy some new work trousers, get my disposable camera pictures from T in the Park developed and maybe get some new books? I have plenty still to read but I'm feeling the urge to just buy more. I don't have any in mind as of yet. Hello spending ages in Waterstones! :)

After listening to Radio 1 non-stop when on holiday in Wales and then hardly listening to it back home, I realised how much I miss listening to Scott Mills' show so I subscribed to the daily podcast. When I've not been able to sleep the past few nights, I put it on hoping I'd manage to fall asleep but I end up laughing too much and being more awake by the end of it. I especially like the download entitled "Olly Murs Loves in Innuendo" - not just for the hilarity of Innuendo Bingo but for Chris singing Match.com style songs to people in train stations and on a train telling girls they "look like [they] enjoy a buffet." Too funny.

Exam results tomorrow, apparently. Shitting it more than a little bit. I have this horrible feeling I might have failed something and I can't progress onto third year. People had been finding out today that they had passed by emailing their academic advisor, but with me working, I didn't know until tonight. I really am dreading these results.

Awk well, at least I'm not working tomorrow and I'm out tomorrow night to either drown my sorrows or celebreate!

I Don't Know

Why didn't anybody tell me how amazing Kassidy were before or whilst I was at T in the Park? I would have totally went to see them on the Friday evening.
Since I've been working all summer, I decided it was time to spend some of that hard earned money. I bought a ridiculous amount of gig tickets (that's where the majority of my money usually goes) as well as Submarine on dvd, Neon Trees' album "Habits" and "Boots Met My Face" by Admiral Fallow. I was just going to digitally download "Boots Met My Face" but for once buying the physical cd was cheaper than the download. Not complaining. :)

I'm really hoping I've passed the clinical biochemistry exam I resat on Wednesday. I'm hoping immunology next Thursday goes well too. I'd hate it so much if I couldn't progress onto third year of uni whilst everyone else can. The major problem is that I keep procrastinating. I can't help it. I'm doing it right now. 
I finally got a new uniform at work today - a blue tunic for when I'm working in care. 
My parents and Jayne are away school clothes shopping right now. I used to hate doing that so much. 
The plan for tonight is to eat dinner and then curl up in bed watching Submarine with a cuppa. Sounds good. :)

Wake Me Up

One of my 43 Things, was to raise £100 for a charity, which I've managed to do for Cancer Research UK by taking part in Race for Life. Brilliant. I've just finished working 9 days in a row doing a variety of jobs in the home. Last night when working a back shift in care, one resident said to me, "Cara, what even is your job?" and another said "You seem to be doing everything." haha. So true. Jack of all trades I am. So glad to be off tomorrow. No long lies for me though, up early to get a train to Edinburgh for Race for Life. Then back at work for three days working earlies in care.

Rachel, Kirstie and I planned to go out on Thursday night to the abc and since I'd been working constantly, I was quite looking forward to a fun wee night out. Whilst planning on going out, I found out a bunch of folk I knew were also going so it'd be more fun than just the three of us. We queued in the cold for just over half an hour and finally got to the front where Kirstie and Rachel put their heels on and we all took out our ID. But, in the process of taking out our ID, Kirstie discovered she had no purse and with no purse, there is no ID. No abc for us. We went to McDonald's and then a wee drive up Glennifer Braes and watched some cars in the distance and some planes landing. It looks so pretty. While in the car, we blasted some Disney songs, which was fun but still not as fun as a wee catch up with some folk in the abc. Aw well, shit happens. We'll just have to check before we leave from now on that everyone has ID, haha.

On Friday at work, it was Frank's birthday. He's just in the home for respite. He's lovely but he wasn't feeling too well so didn't come down to the dining room at lunch or dinner. Annette, the cook, baked a wonderful cake for him, his family and the residents so at dinner time, Kim, Mandy and myself went up to his room to sing happy birthday. Just as we were about to head up the stairs, the doorbell rang and many members of Frank's family had arrived to see him and were witnesses to our awful singing. But everyone, including the rest of the residents, all got a piece of cake after dinner and Frank was well happy.  I love moments like that at work. :)

I'm going shopping on Thursday with Laura-Ann for stuff for T in the Park. Excited! :D

I love Munchies

Sorry for the lack of posts, I've literally just been working and sleeping and watching The Big Bang Theory with my dad. I've been having this problem where I can't sleep until about 2am, no matter how early I go to bed. So I've taken up reading at night again in the hopes that it will make me fall asleep earlier. So far, no luck since I start to get really into the book. Meh. I've also got this problem that it's difficult to breathe. Not that it's majorly affecting me, it just feels weird. Urgh. 

So I worked 32 hours last week. It was only meant to be 26, but then I covered for Marion on Sunday as well as going my own shift in the laundry. Wow, 8am-6.30pm is one long shift. My feet were so sore by the end and I just wanted to go to bed. Marion will be off all this week so I covered for her on Monday and I am again on Thursday as well as a couple of days cleaning covering for Jeanette inbetween. Out of all the jobs I do in the home, cleaning is my least favourite. The shifts just drag on and are so repetitive. Aw well.

Mayday Parade

I saw Mayday Parade, We Are the In Crowd, A Rocket to the Moon and Blitz Kids at the garage last night. I always go on about how amazing gigs were and this one was no different. Although, I only had heard one song from We Are the In Crowd before last night but I liked them. :) I was gutted that A Rocket to the Moon only had a short set but that was expected since they were only a support.

Bad things about working nights: I miss things I wanted to watch on tv. Aw well. Iplayer and 4oD here I come. 

Good things: I'm not wasting my nights away being bored spending the night online. I get paid to help people. Good times.

The IT Crowd

I've been watching The IT Crowd on 4oD since everyone keeps going on about how amazing it is and I hadn't seen it. I wasn't a massive fan at first, but I like it now. Thankfully, 4oD has the four series' online for my viewing pleasure. :)

Since I'm working late shifts next week, I'm trying to find a way into work which isn't a lift from my mum since she doesn't finish work until 3 and I start at 2.30. Bad times. My dad said I should try and ask folk for a lift and pay them petrol money but I feel bad doing that. Asking them anyway. Well, only Kirstie and Laura-Ann.  So far, not so good. By the looks of things I'm going to need to get a taxi.

Last Sunday whilst at work, I was thinking about why I was even there. I was in a bad mood for various reasons and decided that I couldn't think of a good reason other than "I need money" for why I was even working. My day suddenly got better and I realised why I was still there when I went to put the hoist strap that I'd just washed away in the cupboard in the lounge. One resident, May, turned to the woman sitting next to her, Jean, and said, "That girl is very nice. She's lovely." Totally put a smile on my face for the rest of the day. The residents in the home I work in are lovely people.
